Commissioners pick T-shirt design

Wayne Allen

PDT Staff Writer

Every year the Scioto County Commissioners are tasked with picking a winning T-shirt design for the annual Agriculture Adventure Day, which is slated for May 8.

“For our annual Ag Adventure Day we have a T-shirt design contest. The Scioto County Farm Bureau and OSU Extension sponsor the day and get sponsors for the T-shirts. Every kid will get a t-shirt with the winning design on the front,” said Jo Williams with the Ohio State University Extension Services of Scioto County.

She said there were designs sent in from four or five area schools. She said of those designs they were narrowed down to the top 15 and the commissioners chose the winning ones.

“Ag Adventure Day is May 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The day is for fourth graders from around the county to come to the fairgrounds to learn about agriculture. We are expecting about 500 people there that say,” Williams said. “The sessions are all done by 4-H volunteers, farm bureau members and 4-H Teen Leaders. This years sessions will include one on bees, horses, goats. We do one about label reading, there’s one about grains and soil or water quality among others.”

When asked what the students get out of the day Williams said, “we always do a post-event evaluation and the thing that we’ve found over the course of the last eight or nine years is the kids get a greater appreciation for where the products we use and the things we eat comes from.”
