Northwest Elementary congratulates two teachers on their upcoming retirement.

Third-grade teacher Barb Koch and fourth-grade teacher Mike Carr will be retiring at the conclusion of the 2011-2012 school year.

Barb Koch taught second and third grades at Northwest for 36 years. She began her teaching career at McDermott Elementary. She served as the Lead Mentor for Northwest Local School District for the Resident Educator Program.

Koch graduated from Northwest High School where she was a member of the Honor Society. She attended Ohio University and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Her plans for retirement include helping with student teachers and maybe traveling.

Mike Carr taught 33 years in the Northwest Local School System. Having served in the Army and surviving a tour in Vietnam, Carr is a proud veteran. He was able to purchase two years from the Army which helped with his retirement. Carr has taught fourth through eighth grades and every subject throughout the years.

Carr graduated from Minford High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Ohio University. He did his student teaching at Oak Street in New Boston and began his teaching career at Morgan Elementary in 1979.

His plans for retirement include enjoying his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, traveling and babysitting his grandchildren.
