NEW BOSTON — The village of New Boston welcomes a very special guest on Saturday, Dec. 1, as Santa Claus returns for another year of Breakfast with Santa and the New Boston Christmas Parade.

The annual Breakfast with Santa started in 1994, when New Boston Mayor James Warren took office. Each year since, community volunteers have come together to cook a free pancake and sausage breakfast for New Boston residents only. Hundreds of people show up, and more each year. Also during the breakfast, children can spend a few minutes visiting with Santa Claus and are sent home with a small gift.

This year’s breakfast on Dec. 1 begins at 9 a.m. — although people start arriving much earlier — and continues until 11 a.m.

“This is something to give back to the community,” Warren said. “The real reason is to bring the community together, so they can sit down and enjoy and know each other.”

Three years ago, the village decided to expand its Christmas activities even more and started a New Boston Christmas parade. The parade returns this year on Dec. 1, lining up in the Tractor Supply Company parking lot at 5 p.m. The route will follow throughout the village, before ending back at the New Boston Fire Department near the starting line.

“We’ll probably go up Park Avenue onto Gallia Street, then down to probably around the 3700 block or so, and come back up Rhodes Avenue to disband at the fire station,” Warren said.

At the fire department, Santa will be there for children, and hot cocoa and snacks for all.

Anyone wanting to participate in the parade can notify the village by calling 740-456-4103 or stopping by their office on Gallia Street, and fill out a registration form. There is no registration fee, Warren said. The New Boston High School band also has participated in the past.

“This is something that we, as a community, take pride in. All the employees are usually involved in this,” Warren said.
