The Lawrence-Scioto County Solid Waste Management District has received a donation of two vehicles for use while they work out issues with the Lawrence-Ironton Community Action Organization that barring the usage of the regular vehicles.

According to Dan Palmer, LSSWMD Director, the vehicles came to the district thanks to Scioto County Sheriff Marty Donini and Spectra Outreach Services of Ironton who donated a van to the district.

Donini is allowing the district to use an older modeled cruiser so that District Environmental Officer Steve Hileman could be back out on the road to answer and investigate calls.

Bob Vinson, owner of Spectra Outreach Services, donated a Ford Club Wagon Van to the District. The donation will allow litter crews to be on the roads again.

At its last meeting in 2012 the LSSWMD Board of Directors voted to peruse legal matters against the Lawrence-Ironton CAO.

Palmer stated the reason for the action is because, “the Ironton-Lawrence County CAO refusing to turn over the titles to six of our vehicles and trailers and money due to us from the account we had at the CAO. Danielle Parker with the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office was present and the board gave her approval to proceed legally to work this out. I’m hoping we can work this out.”

Parker said negotiations with the Ironton-Lawrence County CAO are ongoing but the situation has not changed.

Palmer said he appreciates the donations of the vehicles so the district can function again.

The LSSWMD Board of Directors consists of Scioto County Commissioners, Doug Coleman, Mike Crabtree and Skip Riffe and Lawrence County Commissioners Bill Pratt, Les Boggs and Freddie Hayes.

Calls to Chairman of the LSSWMD board of directors Freddie Hayes were not returned.

For more information about the LSSWMD visit them at 109 North Third St., in Ironton or visit, www.lsswmd.org.
