River Days entertainment announced

By WAYNE ALLEN

PDT Staff Writer

Organizers for this year’s River Days Festival on Saturday announced this year’s entertainment lineup.

On Thursday, Aug. 30, Bo Bice will take the river front stage. According to www.bobice.com, “Bice’s career began to take shape when he worked the Southern club circuit in a number of bands, including Blue Suede Nickel, Purge and Sugar Money. Although the groups made some in-roads, his initial claim to fame came in 2005, when he finished second to Carrie Underwood on Fox television’s ‘American Idol.’ His first release following that show, ‘The Real Thing,’ yielded the chart-topping single “Inside Your Heaven” and helped Bice attain the first of his two gold record awards.”

On Friday, Aug. 31, Josh Thompson will take the riverfront stage.

According to www.joshthompsonofficial.com, “At its core are ‘who I am’ songs that define the salt-of-the-earth characters whose concerns Josh knows and relates so well … ‘Name In This Town’ is a look at the place of reputation and identity in a small community; ‘I’ve Always Been Me’ is a man owning his own good and bad, taking pride in the authenticity he brings to living; ‘You Ain’t Seen Country Yet’ waves its allegiance to country life proudly; and ‘Way Out Here,’ the album’s title cut, takes the listener as far back into backwoods life as it’s possible to go. Before the release of his own album, Josh was best known for penning the title cut to Jason Michael Carroll’s latest album, ‘Growing Up is Getting Old.’ The song was one of several played for Sony Music Nashville execs by pluggers at Josh’s publishing company, and their reaction to his voice and the strength of the songs earned him a meeting with label chief Joe Galante and A&R head Renee Bell.”

Saturday, Sept. 1, will feature the band Night Ranger and Sunday, Sept. 2, will feature the band Direct Energy, with a fireworks show also scheduled for that evening following the concerts.

“With this being the 50th anniversary of the festival we were looking for some good acts,” said Trent Williams, chairman of the festival.

He said all of the concerts are free and open to the public.
