Niemann expects a good time at county fair

Country singer Jerrod Niemann will take the stage at the Scioto County Fair tonight at 8 p.m. In an interview with the Portsmouth Daily Times on Monday, Niemann said fair-goers can expect a good time during the show.

“Hopefully everyone will be ready to rock,” Niemann said. “I grew up in a small town and the fair was everything for us. So it means a lot to me to be able to play a fair.”

Niemann said he expects there to be a lot of fan interaction during the show.

“I’ve also realized it’s fun to get the fans involved in the show. The other night we had a girl on stage singing happy birthday to her,” Niemann said. “It’s certainly our goal to have as much fun as we can during a show.”

Niemann said he will be playing half of the new album at tonight’s show. He said the lineup will include songs from his current album, “Judge Jerrod & The Hung Jury,” along with many others. When asked what his favorite song on the “Judge Jerrod & The Hung Jury” album is titled, “What Do You Want.”

“That’s my favorite song because that’s the first time I’ve ever picked up a guitar and said what was on my mind. There is a bunch of little things that makes that song one of my favorites, mostly because it’s autobiographical,” Niemann said.

Niemann said his sophomore album, “Free The Music” will be released Oct. 2 and has a unique sound.

“Everything is unique about this album compared to our first album. There is a new innovative technology called clasp. It allows you to record using an analog machine. We used this technology to be able to capture that analog sound. Once we figured out the recording process we were going to take, we decided to find textures and tones that would complement the analog process,” Niemann said. “We use horns on the entire record.

“If you are a country music fan you can’t help but realize the steel guitar and the fiddle are the epitome of country music. The steel guitar was not invented until 1948. Before that there were horns in country music, it was important to me to honor all eras in country music. At the same time trying to educate new listeners.”
