Scioto County Sheriff’s detectives and Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless say they have been able to identify the man who robbed Charter One Bank at 8806 Ohio River Rd. in Wheelersburg Friday and the US Bank at 7537 County Rd. 107 in Proctorville Monday. They have issued warrants for that person.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said the suspect is Elvis P. Kerns, 34, of Wheelersburg and now the Sheriff’s Office is seeking information as to his whereabouts.

Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless said his detectives have been working with the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office detectives on the case since both robberies had a similar suspect and method of operation. As a result of that investigation, authorities in both counties have named Kerns as the suspect in those robberies.

“That’s who we suspect,” Lawless said. “He is the same suspect in ours (bank robbery) as well.”

Donini said his office has obtained a warrant for Kerns’ arrest, and Lawless’ office was in the process of obtaining a warrant as well.

Donini said Kerns is 5 feet 11 inches tall with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen driving a 1990 gold Chevrolet Cavalier with Ohio registration FTK1183. The vehicle has a sticker in the back window that supports coal miners and it has tinted windows that are bubbled all over. The last known location of the suspect and that vehicle was Cross Lanes, W.Va. Kerns was just released from prison in December of 2012 on unrelated charges.

Donini said anyone with any information concerning those charges is being requested to contact detective Jodi Conkel at the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office 740-351-1091 or Lawrence County detective Aaron Bollinger at 740-532-3525.
