Minford choir to offer Disney medley this Thursday

JOSEPH PRATT

PDT Intern

The Minford High School choir will be taking people under the sea, onto the pride lands, into Arabian nights, and visiting several other worlds this Thursday night during their spring concert. This year’s show features a Disney medley and several solos that are derived from classic Disney tunes.

Michele Compton, 20-year music teacher at Minford high school, will be directing this concert. She said she is glad to see her students enjoying themselves and getting involved.

“We will be featuring music from The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Pocahontas,” Compton said. “I always let the kids decide what we are doing each year. I have about three themes that I can live with, and then I let them vote on it. The voting was a close call, a lot of students wanted to run a show with a “love” theme, but Disney won. Now that the students are involved in the show, they all seem to really enjoy it. With the show date getting closer and closer, the students are getting excited and are ready to go.”

Aaron Evans, senior member of the Minford choral department, is a member of the chorus and has a solo in “Circle of Life,” from The Lion King.

“I am not as heavily involved as some of the other students, but I have always helped out Mrs. Compton and I usually have solos and stuff. It’s just really great to help out,” Evans said. “I think this show is pretty good. We’ve not really ever done anything like this and it is a nice change. The Disney medley is cool and has songs from all sorts of different classic Disney shows; Aladdin, Lion King, etc.”

Tyler Gaines, senior member of the Minford choral department, is a member of the chorus; has a solo in “I Just Can’t Wait to be King,” from The Lion King; and also dances during Gaston’s song, from Beauty and the Beast.

“I think this show is really fun and the music is really energetic and everyone is really getting into it,” Gaines said. “I really hope everyone enjoys the show and has as much fun as we’ve had with it!”

Halea King, junior member of the Minford choral department, is a member of chorus and has a solo in “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” from The Lion King.

“I love my solo. I always loved The Lion King when I was a kid, so it is great to get the chance to sing that beautiful song. This show is great. I mean, we all watched the movies as kids, so it is great to get to sing them now that we are older,” King said. “This show really is great. If you like Lion King and all of those kinds of shows then you’ll enjoy yourself.”

Susan Murta, sophomore member of the Minford choral department, is a chorus member and has a solo in “Part of Your World,” from The Little Mermaid.

“I like my song a lot and I think Ariel is great. Ariel knows what she wants and she wants to do things with her life; she doesn’t want to be like everyone else.”

The Minford High School choral department invites everyone to see their show April 19 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are free. The front entrance will be unlocked half an hour prior to the event. For more information, call Michele Compton at 740-820-3445.
