RARDEN — Olivia Owens, a native of Rarden, has published her first book entitled “Windows of the Soulless” in 2012.

“It is a book that follows the life of a vampire in 1944 in Germany,” Owens said.

Owens said that she is elated about becoming an author.

“It is amazing feeling. I thought it would be exciting, but I really wasn’t ready for how incredible it feels,” Owens said.

Owens said her book is somewhat different from most vampire books.

“Its a different type of vampire novel because in most of them, the vampire is really evil, or they are really good, almost like superheroes. My is just kind of in-between, they are easier to relate to, almost like humans, but they have vampire issues,” Owens said.

Owens said she her inspiration to write Windows of the Soulless originated from her admiration of fantasy fiction.

“I love reading fantasy fiction, so I just chose something that I really like to read,” Owens said.

Owens also said she has written some screen plays in the past, but never did anything with her creative work until now.

A part from pursuing a career as a freelance writer, Owens is also a wife and mother. Her husband’s name is Chuck, and they have two daughters named Ashley and Natalie.

Owens is also a graduate of Shawnee State University and currently works as an x-ray technician at Southern Ohio Medical Center.

Owens said she went from working as a health care professional to writing a book through the affinity of writing that she has possessed for many years.

“I have always liked to write and I just did it as a hobby for a very long time. People have read it and they told me how good it was and that I should try to get my work published,” she said.

Owens said she began to search for an agent, which was a tedious process.

“It is so hard to get an agent to read your work, it’s ridiculous. I finally found a publisher in the local area. Jamie Bendera, of Bendera Publishing out of Wheelersburg,” Owens said.

The intention to readers is simple, according to Owens.

“I just want my readers to be able to just read it, and visualize it and get some entertainment out of it and some enjoyment. It is purely for enjoyment and entertainment,” Owens said.

Although vampire stories capture the attention of many young readers, Owens said her book is intended for adults.

“Windows of the Soulless” is available on Amazon.com, and Kindle.
