LUCASVILLE — Thursday marked the fifth full day of activities at the 116th Scioto County Fair. Among Thursday’s actives were the Circus Continental and the annual flower show.

The Circus Continental held two performances at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. The shows were saw large audiences of children and their parents taking part in the show. The shows featured high-wire act along with the Pork Chop Review, and many other routines.

There were two flower shows that took place during this years fair Monday and Thursday. According to Carolyn Wilcox, co-chairwoman of this years flower show, the fair’s first flower show has typically taken place on Tuesday of the fair. She said the change was made this year to have something for people to look at on Monday.

The theme for this years flower shows was “This Glorious Earth.”

“During Monday’s show Ev Veach won the Best of Show and the Award of Distinction. She also won the horticulture Best of Show award, she cleaned up this year,” Wilcox said.

She said there were seven garden clubs that participated in this years flower show. The categories for the flower show were arrangements, horticulture and potted plants.

“Horticulture and arrangements were judged on Thursday,” Wilcox said.

She said a judge from Columbus came down to judge the show. She said a judge from Cincinnati came down to judge Thursdays show. Wilcox said it takes area gardeners months to prepare an exhibit at the fair.

She said a person does not have to be a member of a local garden club to participate in the annual flower show.
