Authorities are looking for the man they say shot another man about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of 14th and Union streets. An arrest warrant has been issued for Micah Wade Smith, charging felonious assault in the wounding of Devante Lattimore, 21, of Portsmouth.
Portsmouth Police said they were called to Southern Ohio Medical Center in response to a report that a man had arrived there after being shot. Upon arrival, Lattimore reportedly identified the shooter as Micah Wade Smith, who is also a Portsmouth resident.
Lattimore suffered multiple wounds to the back of his upper thighs. Police said Lattimore was likely shot with a pistol loaded with shotgun-style buckshot ammunition. Lattimore was transferred to an undisclosed area hospital for continued health care, and was still in the hospital Wednesday evening.
An arrest warrant for Smith was obtained and he has been entered into the National Crime Information Center as a wanted person who should be considered armed and dangerous. Smith is described as a black male with a light brown skin tone. He keeps his head shaved, is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds.
Detective Sgt. Jim Charles said anyone who has information about the shooting or on the whereabouts of Micah Wade Smith is asked to call the Portsmouth Police at 740-353-4101 or the detectives of the Portsmouth Police Department at 740-354-1600. Charles said callers can remain anonymous and information is kept confidential.
