Saturday was the last full day of the 29th Annual Roy Rogers Festival.
Jane Lilly, spokeswoman for the festival said throughout the four days of the festival there were between 300 and 500 people in attendance.
Lilly said the enthusiasm of this year’s festival participants was the highlight of the weekend for her.
“This is proof that the memory of Roy Rogers is alive and well,” Lilly said.
Lilly said participants of this years festival came from as far away as Wales in the United Kingdom.
She said a large number of festival attendees took a tour of the Roy Rogers Memories Museum.
One of the opening activities of the festival was the opening of the museum by Dodie Rogers-Patterson, youngest daughter of the late Roy Rogers.
Rogers-Patterson said this is her fourth year attending the festival.
“The festival is really nice and each year you meet more people. Now with the opening of the museum, it’s going to be really nice,” Rogers-Patterson said. “It’s fun to come back to Portsmouth every year; it’s one of my favorite places.”
The museum is located at 526 2nd Street in Portsmouth.
This year’s festival featured Marlyn Mason, Dan Haggerty, John Fullerton, Dodie Rogers-Patterson, and Jon Patterson along with many others.
Lilly said the memory of Roy Rogers is what keeps drawing people back to the festival every year.
“We are excited to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the festival next year. We know already it’s going to be a great year,” Lilly said.
