Portsmouth Police are searching for a man they say left the scene of a one-car crash Tuesday morning on Chillicothe Street.
The vehicle was southbound on Chillicothe Street near the OSCO Industries parking lot when it left the right side of the roadway striking a power pole head-on. The pole was severed at its base and was leaning from the bumper of the car, south.
“It was a hit skip. The driver took off. He ran from the area,” Ben Fugitt of the Portsmouth Police Department said. “The passengers stayed there.”
Fugitt said the passengers, a work crew from a gutter company, told officers they had been with the driver only a couple of days, and while they gave authorities a name, police are not releasing the name because they are not sure that was the actual driver’s name.
Larry Dorst, 22, of Walnut Street, Portsmouth and Amanda McClintic, 21, of Wayne Avenue, Portsmouth, were taken to Southern Ohio Medical Hospital by Able Ambulance with “non-incapacitating” injuries.
American Electric Power was at the scene for several hours working to restore the service.
