Winners Chosen for Daily Times 2013 Calendar
Daily Times 2013 Calendar Images
January - We did not get as many winter images, but it would not have mattered, this one was a keeper! Winner: Donna Joseph, Waverly

After hours of debate, the Portsmouth Daily Times was able to select 12 winning images from local contributors to include in the Daily Times 2013 Calendar. Overall, the Daily Times audience members contributed more than 110 images of the local area to be included in the calendar. Daily Times staff members narrowed the list down to more than 30 before breaking the images out by category based on the month of the year. The winners of this year's calendar image contest are Donna Joseph, January; Cori Martin, February; Karen Waddell, March and October; Deena Howerton, April; Barb Hicks, May; Becca Reynolds, June; Deanna Gallion, July; William Lynn, August; Teresa Madden, September; Stefany Jenkins, November and Pamela Mallory, December. "We really enjoyed the process of going through the images up until we had to make our final selections, then the process wasn't as much fun because we were heartbroken over some of the images we either couldn't or didn't use," said Michael Messerly, Daily Times General Manager. "It is not surprising because the area (southern Ohio/northern Kentucky) is just so picturesque, but there are only 12 months in the year so we had to painfully pare the list down." The calendar will be inserted into an upcoming December edition of the Daily Times and delivered to its subscribers. A select few extra copies will be available for the contest winners and calendar sponsors. Among the sponsors are SOMC, Dr. Khoury, Daymar College, Concord Health and the Boneyfiddle Arts Center (BAC). A slideshow of all the winning images is currently available on the Daily Times website, www.portsmouth-dailytimes.com. You can also go to the Daily Times Facebook page for a direct link to the slideshow. "This was really successful and it might be something we do again in some other capacity," Messerly said. "We know the (BAC) has monthly photo contests so obviously there are a good number of talented area photographers. Possibly, we could reach out to the (BAC) and co-sponsor some photo contests. There's just so much to enjoy visually by living in this part of the country. We're lucky." The winning images range from iconic local scenes to simple images that reflect the time of the season such as a dog fetching a stick from a lake. Messerly says the Daily Times will use some of the images not chosen for the calendar on the Daily Times Facebook page cover images. We'll be putting a good number of these images to good use," he said. "They're too good not to use."
