A Portsmouth man has been charged with first degree murder in the beating death of his baby. Brandon J. Wilson, 23, of 1202 Rosemount Road, was arrested Monday after authorities at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus reported that the baby, 10-month-old Neylan Wilson, had died.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office received notification on Nov. 19, from Nationwide Children’s Hospital that they were treating a 10-month-old infant for several life threatening injuries including a skull fracture, which is why the infant was transported to their facility by helicopter from Southern Ohio Medical Center.

Detective’s responded to Nationwide Children’s Hospital where they were able to talk to several witnesses along with the medical staff and observe the baby, which resulted in a report being filed. During this investigation detectives learned that the baby was living with his mother and her boyfriend at 1112 Boren Blvd., Apt. A, in Wheelersburg, and on Nov. 19, the mother, Tierra Simeona, called 911 and requested a squad for her baby. Porter Township EMS transported the child to Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth where he was later transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.

Donini said it was an ongoing investigation and that Nationwide Children’s Hospital contacted detectives on Nov. 20, 2012, stating that the baby had died as a result of his injuries.

Testing was performed along with an autopsy that was conducted at the Franklin County Morgue. Donini said a forensic interview was completed on a 3-year-old child that was present in the residence this past Thursday, with the results of that interview being made to detectives on Monday (Dec. 3). Donini said that as a result of the ongoing investigation Wilson was located at his residence on Rosemount Road, in Portsmouth, where he was detained and brought in for questioning.

After consulting with the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office the suspect was charged.

Portsmouth Municipal Court reports Wilson was arraigned on a charge of murder Tuesday morning, and was returned to the Scioto County Jail, under $500,000 cash or surety bond. The court said Wilson has a preliminary hearing set for Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. in Judge Steven Mowery’s court room.

Donini said the case is part of an ongoing investigation which could result in more charges being presented to the Scioto County grand jury at a later date. He said anyone with any information concerning this case is being requested to contact Detective Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091. All calls will remain anonymous.

I dont know the parents nor do I care to, my sorrow is for this child whose short life was so horrible. I cannot understand how anyone could hurt a gift from God this way. My hope is that the creature who killed this child dies a slow lingering death.
