A Dayton man has been arrested with 70 grams of heroin and a Portsmouth man for violating probation. Marcus Haley, 49, of 2902 Knoll Ridge Rd., Dayton, is charged with possession of heroin, a first degree felony.

According to Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini and Portsmouth Police Chief Robert Ware, Southern Ohio Drug Task Force detectives were requested to assist the Portsmouth Municipal Court Probation Department at 3178 Walnut St. in Portsmouth, after probation officers had arrested 32-year-old Carson W. Craft Jr. of Portsmouth, for violating probation. Once task force detectives arrived on the scene, an investigation was initiated and a search of the residence was conducted. Detectives discovered approximately 70 grams of suspected heroin in a false compartment inside of a Slim Jim container, more than $3,500 cash, a small amount of marijuana, digital scales and assorted drug paraphernalia.

Haley was placed in the Scioto County Jail and was held on a $20,000 bond.

Donini said the case against Haley will be forwarded to the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office to be presented to a Scioto County grand jury for the consideration of additional criminal charges.

Donini and Ware said anyone wanting to leave drug information for the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force may do so by contacting the Sheriff’s Office drug line at 740-351-1094, the Portsmouth Police Department drug line at 740-354-DRUG (3784), or email drugs@sciotocountysheriff.com. All information will be kept confidential and anonymous.

Wow they bust one in how long and your proud? The Southern Ohio Drug Task Force seems like a joke. Is anyone working local drugs anymore? Drug dealers are moving back into every neighborhood more and more. You don't see anyone being prosecuted for drugs anymore in the paper. Have you looked at your streets lately, drugs are flooding back into Portsmouth and the county like water flowing in a creek. If your a small drug dealer, this task force seems to not even care about you and your free to do what you want. You call and call the task force. You get no reply. Half the time I call I cannot even leave a message as it just makes a beep sound. I am glad to get this guy off the streets but when was the last bust? I gave the task force information and names of people on my street and the street behind me and in front of me. Is anything being done about that? It does not seem to be. We need a task force working our streets again. Even the attorney and prosecutor said they are not doing drug cases like they were. Well I was tickled to death to see that Chief Ware has put Timberlake back as a narcotics detective. Now maybe something will get done. He seems to be the only one who cares and actually does the job. I always saw his name in the paper constantly with bust after bust or on the news. He should have never been taking out of the Task Force in the first place in my opinon and by several others I have talked to. The old chief sure does not seem to care about the drugs in this town to have removed him. My family, neighbors, and church are estactic to hear that Timberlake is back working drug case and finally our streets can get cleaned up again. The Southern Ohio Drug Task force is not working. They need to go back to the working their neighborhoods again. Time to rid Portsmouth of all these dealers. Welcome Back Timberlake and great job Police Chief Ware for putting Timberlake back where he belongs.

Great Job guys! You guys are now really kicking butt! The two agencies are working more closely together and more effective than they have been in nearly twenty years! It's amazing how things change when the micro managing is gone! Keep up the good work and your community is very proud of the work you are doing! I'm proud to say I live in Sciot County!
