More than 500 people came out to the auction at Stanton Primary School in New Boston Tuesday.

The New Boston School District acquired $24,000 from the auction held Tuesday of the contents of the Stanton School building. With demolition of the Stanton and Oak buildings eminent, the district’s goal was to sell as much of the content as quickly as possible.
Hundreds of people cycled in and out of the Stanton school building on New Years Day to purchase items at the auction.
According to the New Boston Schools Superintendent, Mike Staggs, the auction’s total benefit of $24,000 far exceeded their original goal of $4,000.
“Everything went extremely well. We are very pleased,” Staggs said. We moved out just about everything and we did not even get to Oak Street,” Staggs said.
Staggs said everything in the entire building was available to purchase, consisting of thousands of different types of things from furniture to freezers, to windows.
Staggs said the original plan was to host an auction of the contents at Stanton and then move onto the Oak Street building, but their plans were thwarted by the influx of people at the Stanton auction.
“We were just swamped from 9 a.m. when the auction began and throughout the rest of the day,” Staggs said.
Staggs said he would like to see the money raised from the auctions benefit the students in the district.
“I can’t speak for the board, because its a board decision, but I would like to see all of the money go back to the students, most certainly for technology,” Staggs said.
Staggs said the New Boston School District desires to increase their distribution of electronic devices for the students for educational uses.
“We are trying to establish a one-to-one program with each child having their own electronic device,” Staggs said.
Staggs said the auction for the contents of the Oak Street building has rescheduled for Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 beginning at 9 a.m. and is hopeful that the auction for the Oak Street School building will garner just as much support from the community as the Stanton building.
