FRANKLIN FURNACE — Three people were arrested Friday morning by the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office after an investigation of two reports of breaking-and-entering at a Franklin Furnace business.

Christopher Andrews, 32, of New Boston was charged Friday with two counts of fifth-degree felony breaking-and-entering, along with a probation violation. He was being held on Friday without bond. Also arrested was Sarah White, 34, of Franklin Furnace and Candace Kline, 41, of Sciotoville. Both women were being held Friday without bond on charges of probation violation.

According to Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini, the Scioto County 911 center received a call on Thursday from Bailey’s Mini Mart in Franklin Furnace. The caller reported that sometime during the night an unknown person busted out the window at the front of the store and stole several cartons of cigarettes and money. Bailey’s was a victim of another breaking and entering on April 13, when an unknown person had similarly broken the glass at the front of the store and stole several cartons of cigarettes.

Donini said an investigation led detectives to a house in New Boston, and that resulted in a search of a house in Franklin Furnace. During this search, detectives learned the breaking-and-entering suspect was possibly at a residence on Cherry Street in Sciotoville and they responded to that location, where they found the suspect’s vehicle parked. Detectives determined that two possible suspects were hiding inside and refusing to come out.

Along with the Portsmouth Police Department and the Portsmouth Municipal Court probation officers, sheriff’s detectives gained entry and found Andrews crawled into a small hole under the house, and he refused to come out. He was later apprehended with the assistance of the Portsmouth Police Department K-9 unit detectives. He was taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center, where he was treated and released for minor injuries.

Andrews was charged with two counts of fifth-degree felony breaking-and-entering, along with a probation violation. He was being held Friday without bond. Andrews also had warrants out of Jackson County and Russell, Ky., for breaking-and-entering. Donini said Andrews also admitted to breaking into a business in Sciotoville, and that case is being forwarded to the Portsmouth Police Department for charges.

More charges will be presented to a Scioto County grand jury on a later date.

Donini said this case is still under investigation, and he is asking anyone with information to contact Det. Jodi Conkel at the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, at 740-351-1091.
