The 2013 Miss Ohio USA and Miss Ohio Teen USA pageants final show will take place this afternoon at the Vern Riffe Center For the Arts at 4:30 p.m. At the end of the show Miss Ohio 2012 Audrey Bolte will crown the 2013 Miss Ohio USA. Kendall Fein Miss Ohio Teen USA 2012 will also crown the 2013 Miss Ohio Teen USA.

Bolte and Fein attend the Portsmouth Area Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours Thursday night and thanked those in attendance and the city for once again rolling out the red carpet.

“My year has been an absolute whirlwind. I’ve never been in a pageant before until Miss Ohio last year. My only experience watching YouTube videos so, you can imagine how widely and hugely surprised I was when they put a crown on my head that night,” Bolte said. “I felt such honor when I was crowned. I could not believe what was in store for me to walk the Miss. USA stage. As a little girl I always looked up to those women but, I never thought I would actually be one.”

Bolte was named the second runner-up to Miss USA 2012.

“This whole year has been great getting to know everyone that has to do with the Miss. USA organization and all the charities we got to work with. Especially Best Buddies, it’s a wonderful charity for special kids in need. You become like a mentor to these children, you get to spend the whole day with them playing and having a great time,” Bolte said.

According to the organization’s website, www.bestbuddies.org, “Best Buddies is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).”

Bolte said she has made friends over the last year what will last a lifetime.

“After this pageant I am moving to New York to work for Donald Trump at Trump International. I could not ask for more, you have no idea where Miss Ohio could place you,” Bolte said.

When asked if she would do it all over again if given the opportunity, Bolte said,”in a heart beat.”

Fein, Miss Ohio Teen USA 2012 said, “my year has also been a whirlwind of events. It was a dream come true being crowned Miss. Ohio Teen. I would say it has grown me into the person I am today and going to college has really opened up doors and I would not have asked for a better year.”

This is the 12th consecutive year the pageants have been at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts. According to Kim Bauer, local pageant director there will be an estimated 105 contestants between the two pageants this year.

According to the Director of the Miss Ohio USA and Miss Ohio Teen USA pageants Melissa Pitchford, “when a young lady wins on Saturday afternoon, on Sunday the announcement of the winner being crowned in Portsmouth, Ohio goes global. It’s a worldwide recognition of Portsmouth. The funny thing is our choreographer and producer of the show lives in Nashville, TN, he booked a rental car today (Thursday). When he got his rental car in Nashville the gentleman said ‘where are you going’. He said, ‘I’m going to Portsmouth, Ohio’, and the gentleman was from Dayton and says, ‘oh, it’s November so you must be going to the Miss. Ohio USA pageant.”

Pitchford is a former Miss. Ohio USA.

The 2013 Miss Ohio USA and Miss Ohio Teen USA Presentation Show will take place on Friday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. in the VRCFA, with the final show taking place on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 4:30 p.m.

A list of local contestants was not made available by the pageant at press time.
