Korn Karnival submitted by James Jordan

Scott Arbogast wrote: Looks like some kind of street fair. Aren’t those booths?

James Jordan wrote: This is the 1915 Korn Karnival on the corner of Gallia & Chillicothe streets.

Karen Sue Wikoff wrote: Wonderful clarity and a little different angle of Korn Karnival. Thanks for a good one!

Jennifer Marsh wrote: There was always a Korn festival, it is mentioned on one of the murals. Had a Korn Kourt Kween. LoL

Scott Arbogast wrote: I don’t know how I lived in P-town for upwards of half my 54 years and I have never heard of the Korn Karnival.

William Mault wrote: I read where it was nothing more that a corn fest.

Jim Detty wrote: William is correct about the purpose of the event, it was discussed a couple of months ago. Area farmers would come into their towns and have festivals (similar to today’s street fairs) during the harvest season to sell their goods to the public, meet other farmers in the area and trade things back and forth, etc. Portsmouth wanted to be unique and change the spelling of the words to better advertise the Portsmouth Carnival.
