Heartland of Portsmouth held their own version of the Kentucky Derby. Nellie Rossa was the owner of the winning horse, Whiskers. Whiskers was the long shot, but won the race by two lengths. The four runners up were: Baby, owner Sally Wolfe, Sam, owner Mary Bricker, Ole Blue, owner Cliff Crabtree and Happy, owner Reda Fannin. Nellie predicts Whiskers will finish first in the Preakness Stakes and maybe even win the Tripple Crown.
