Two Wheelersburg juveniles have been charged in the rape of another juvenile, according to Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini.

Donini said the Scioto County Sheriff's Office received a report on July 6 from a mother alleging her five-year-old daughter had been raped while playing in the back yard with other neighborhood children.

Deputies responded to the Wheelersburg residence and took a complaint of an alleged rape, and forwarded the report to detectives for further investigation.

According to the Sheriff's Department, the juvenile girl was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center for treatment and later transported to Adena Medical Center in Chillicothe for further medical treatment.

After an investigation was completed, detectives charged two juveniles, a nine-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy with rape, a felony of the first degree.

Both juveniles reportedly were released in the custody of their parents and will appear in Scioto County Juvenile Court at a later date.

Donini said the successful apprehension of the suspects is the direct result of joint efforts of the Scioto County Sheriff's Office detectives, Porter Township deputies and Scioto County Children Services.

Scioto County Sheriff's detective Jodi Conkel said she interviewed the suspects Tuesday afternoon at her office, then conferred with Chief Deputy Todd Miller before releasing the arrests and charges information.

Donini also asks anyone with information in this case to contact Conkel at (740) 351-1091. He said all calls will remain anonymous.
