Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini announced Tuesday that his office has arrested three sex offenders for failure to register their residences, and a fourth is still being sought.

According to Capt. David Hall, of the Scioto County Sheriff’s Department, indictments were filed by the grand jury Friday for warrants to arrest Christopher Adkins, 35, formerly of Chillicothe Street, in Portsmouth; Joseph Cabell, 53, of 11th Street, in Portsmouth; and James Gordon, of Portsmouth.

The complaint against Gordon was filed with the Sheriff’s Office by the community of Timmonds Avenue, in Portsmouth, who reported that James Gordon did not reside at the address he registered with. After further investigation by the Sheriff’s Office it was confirmed that Gordon was not living at that address. After Gordon did not respond to the verification letter as required by law, a warrant for failure to verify, a felony of the first degree was issued for his arrest. He was located in Dodge City, Kan., Oct. 27, and arrested without incident by the Dodge City Police Department.

Gordon remains in custody and will be extradited back to Scioto County.

Officers in Scioto County received the warrants for Cabell at 2:52 p.m. Tuesday and reportedly had him in custody at 3:10 p.m. Adkins also was arrested, and both are now being held in the Scioto County Jail. Hall explained there is no bail eligibility for an indictment warrant.

All three are charged with failure to register. Gordon was also charged with failure to verify.

Additionally, Donini said his office is seeking to arrest a fourth individual — Eric K. Curry.

Curry is described as being a white male, 30 years of age, whose last known address was on Mabert Road, in Portsmouth. Curry is being sought for failure to register and failure to verify. Donini asks that anyone with information on Curry’s location contact their local law enforcement, or the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office.

“We take it real serious, and if someone is not registered at the correct address, we want to know that, and we appreciate the public’s help,” Hall said.

Donini said his office monitors the addresses of offenders, and if you believe or know of an offender that is falsely using a different address, you may contact the Scioto County Sheriff’s office and speak with Capt. David Hall at (740) 354-7566.
