I am writing today to thank the many volunteers, approximately 95, who helped us with our citywide cleanup of Portsmouth on Make A Difference Day, Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011. There was about 2 tons of trash/litter that was picked up and disposed of in Dumpsters at Tracy Park. Thank you to our city leaders and officials who participated and backed us up in the project; it was a great success.
Our volunteers were young and old but the effort put forth was phenomenal. We weren’t sure how many people would show up and we were very excited of the outcome. Lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and pop were served to show our appreciation of all the hard work that was accomplished. Thank you to Kroger for donating buns, Life Ambulance for the host dogs and chips, Scioto/Lawrence Waste Management for the gloves ad garbage bags — your generosity was greatly appreciated. And to our director, Anita Casper, for writing a grant to offset the other expenses we incurred. The day was beautiful, we couldn’t have asked for better weather and it put smiles on the faces of the volunteers for doing something good in the community and making a positive impact in Portsmouth.
Again, thank you so much for making a difference in the lives of others and the city. A positive attitude and a little effort can go a long way as you can see.
