One man is facing trial for his alleged role in a local bank robbery, while police are still searching for a suspect in a second bank robbery that reportedly happened eight days later.

Joshua Webb, 24, of Chillicothe, was seen in the Portsmouth Municipal Court Monday following his arrest by New Boston Police on Nov. 21, in connection to an overnight robbery of the New Boston Desco.

According to police, Webb had broken out a window of Desco between the hours of 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Nov. 19, and was able to crawl inside. He reportedly ransacked the inside of the building and broke into several locked drawers, but did not gain access to the bank vault. A large amount of coins was reported stolen as well as one dollar gold coins. New Boston Police received a tip the day after the incident and was able to obtain a search warrant executed at 4117 Taft St., in New Boston, at 1:48 a.m. on Nov. 21. After entering the residence, officers found Webb hiding in the attic. He surrendered without any problems, and there was no one else inside the residence.

While searching the house, officers also found a large amount of one dollar gold coins hidden in the attic. Webb was arrested on charges of fifth-degree felony breaking and entering.

He was first seen in the Portsmouth Municipal Court Nov. 23 where a judge declared him indigent, and appointed Gene Meadows as his attorney. During his return appearance in Judge Schisler’s courtroom Monday, Webb waived his preliminary hearing and signed his own $10,000 bond. He will be scheduled to appear in the Scioto County Court of Common Pleas at a later date.

Webb also is a fugitive from justice with felony breaking and entering and safecracking warrants out of Chillicothe. Those warrants involve Webb allegedly breaking into a bank in Chillicothe. A spokesperson from the Ross County Prosecutor’s Office could not release information regarding their investigation Monday.

As Webb faces trial for his alleged crimes, officers from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Department are still searching for a suspect wanted in the Friday robbery of Ohio River Bank, in South Webster.

According to reports, the 911 dispatch received a call Friday that the South Webster bank had been robbed by a male subject who had left on foot with an undetermined amount of cash. After reviewing security video at the bank, authorities are looking for a white male, who appeared to be in his 20s or 30s, slender, average height and dark haired. The subject fled on foot. No vehicle was seen by witnesses. Officials with the sheriff’s department say there was a weapon used, and declined to release further details.

Members of the FBI and the Ohio State Highway Patrol also assisted in the investigation. Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. The robberies at Desco and Ohio River Bank are not believed to be related.
