Members of the Senior Life Fitness Class at Minford High School organized two floor hockey games and sold T-shirts to raise money for Carolyn Walker.

Walker, a teacher at Minford Jr. High, is undergoing treatment for metastasized bladder cancer at The Ohio State University James Cancer Center.

“When we found out one of the teachers in the district had cancer, we realized we had to do something for her,” said Andrew Kelly, a Minford senior who helped plan the event.

In an effort to raise money for Walker, the students decided to organize the games and T-shirt sales.

For the games, students of the class split into two teams, Orange Nation and Purple Power.

One games was played late last month at the high school and the one was held Tuesday afternoon at Minford Middle School.

Jill McFadden, a math teacher at Minford Middle School, said through donations and T-shirt sales the group was able to present Walker a check for $2,000 to help with her expenses.

“I’m truly amazed by all of this,” Walker said. “The amount of love and support that’s been shown here by the school and this community has been awesome.”
