South Point 84,
Portsmouth 62
Tre Underwood scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, but it was not enough to pull Portsmouth out of an early hole at South Point Friday evening.
The Trojans fell behind 24-6 after the first quarter and never got back within striking range as South Point shot 68 percent from the field.
Forrest Johnson added 11 points and Isaiah Reeves scored 12 for Portsmouth.
"We got off to a slow start, couldn't score and got behind," Portsmouth coach Gene Collins said. "When you've got a young club on the road for the first time, we could never overcome the big hole we dug ourselves. Offensively we're still trying to find ourselves. Tre Underwood has had back-to-back good games and is establishing himself as a post player we're going to have to look to more."
Kevin Mitchell scored 23 points to lead the Pointers. He was flanked by Blake Barnes with 18 and Ethan Prater's 14 points.
The Trojans will be back in Scioto County, but still on the road Tuesday when they visit Wheelersburg.
