An AEP Ohio spokeswoman said the power outage Wednesday morning on Gallia Street near McDonald's in Portsmouth and stretching west on 11th Street, was caused by the storms that swept through the area overnight Wednesday morning.

"All we know is that it was up by the Moose hall and Goodwill," Portsmouth City Service Director Bill Beaumont said. "A main line blew. Something arced up around where those fuses are."

A severe spring storm packing high winds, heavy rain, lightning and hail blew through the state early Wednesday, leaving more than 28,000 AEP Ohio customers without power across the company’s service territory.
