“This will be for male cats only, and anyone who wants to have their cat neutered must set up an appointment in advance,” said Gail Counts, DVM, who also operates Shawnee Animal Clinic. “And we will stop after 90 appointments.”
Counts said she has done 188 in one day, but is limiting surgeries to 90 to keep from having a lot of recovering cats in one area.
Counts said there is no income restrictions to take advantage of the $5 cat neutering.
“Our most important mission is to spay or neuter every dog and cat that's of reproductive age in the area,” Counts said during the grand opening of the shelter in October.
People interested in setting up appointments for the $5 cat neutering Sunday may call Sierra's Haven at (740) 353-5100, or Shawnee Animal Clinic at (740) 353-5758.
“We're also excited about our annual Pot of Luck Party starting at 6 p.m. March 17 at the Elks City Club in Portsmouth,” Counts said. “Tickets are $25, which gets you a lasagna dinner and seven chances to win cash prizes.”
Counts said 40 percent of the ticket sales will be given away that night.
“If we sell 200 tickets the grand prize will be $1,000,” she said. “We will also have a live and silent auction with lots of neat stuff.”
Tickets for the event are available at Sierra's Haven Animal Shelter, Shawnee Animal Clinic, from Terri Boldman at Clay High School, Mark Dever at Taylor Lumber, or any board member.
