Two ladies danced to the strains of “I’m Walkin’ the Floor Over You,” while others clapped their hands, and smiles abounded Thursday afternoon at the United Scioto Senior Activities, Inc. Adult Day Care Center at 121 Market Street in Portsmouth. Staff and clients were awaiting the arrival of Portsmouth Mayor David Malone.

“We’re just having a little bit of music and some refreshments,” Jamie Williams, Activities Coordinator for the Adult Day Care, said. “We’re the only adult day care in Portsmouth. There are two in Scioto County. We just thought it would be nice to officially invite the Mayor to come and see our place.”

Williams said the center provides an important service to the community.

“We provide care for patients, some with Alzheimer’s disease; some with some disabilities, whether it’s just a little bit of memory loss,” Williams said. “We’re able to provide care for them while their families work, or if the family just needs a break, they can come here.”

Williams said the center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

“So if someone still has to go to work, they can drop them off here. They will spend the day with us, and we plan a lot of different activities for them to help them get to socialize with people their own age and still have a little bit of fun despite their disabilities,” Williams said.

Williams said the center received grant money from the Department of Aging through the Area Agency on Aging.

“We’re a Passport provider, so people who are Medicaid eligible that are on the Passport program, are able to come here based upon what their need is, what the family’s need is for them to get to come. They can also be private pay, that’s an option.”

Williams said anyone wanting information about the Adult Day Care Center, may call her at 740-354-3661.

Hey, we can see the fire alarm, is there a smoke detector?

Also, we see no defibrillators around the walls. And are there professional staff available in the room with supervision of the participants, what's the emergency process, wait for the ambulette??

There's only one Gent there, bet he's lovin' it.

If you take that dance idea around the different senior centers, you could really be prolonging their lives and increasing the level of their life styles?

And are they on the net with their laptops?

Just asking, Just saying.............

Who's running that program? The agency not the personnel, etc. Is there a board?

Come on Frank..............

They do accept private pay for the day. Perhaps you could spend the day there and get all your questions answered.
