Even though they played a league game the night before, the Green Bobcats did not show their fatigue early Saturday night against host Wheelersburg.

But as the game wore on, the Pirates — who were idle the night before because their game against Waverly was postponed — were able to wear down Green and end up with a 68-49 win.

"The biggest thing was the shooting, we didn't shoot well from the floor," Wheelersburg coach Tom Barrick said.

The one player for the Pirates who did shoot well was Andy Stegman. The senior led all scorers with 33 points.

"Obviously it was nice for him but we need a better scoring balance for us to be successful on a consistent basis," Barrick said.

After winning Friday night 51-38 at New Boston, Pat Pierce was one of three Green players in double-figures. He led the Bobcats with 18 points while Cody Bruce put in 11 and T. J. McCloud chipped in with 10 points.

The Waverly-Wheelersburg game that was postponed Friday will be played tonight. The Pirates then travel Thursday to Portsmouth for a battle with the Trojans before the Christmas break.

"When you look for games right now heading into Christmas, we want to see how tough we are mentally," Barrick said.

Oak Hill 65, West 46

Although they were able to cut the third quarter deficit to six, the West Senators were not able to hang on Saturday night as they dropped a 65-46 SOC II game to host Oak Hill.

"Their size was just a problem for us to handle defensively," Senators coach Travis Bradford said.

Even though the loss puts West at 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the league, Bradford does have optimism.

"We're more competitive than what we had last year at this time," Bradford said. "...We're not to where we want to be but we're getting there."

Zach Bolton led the Senators with 15 points while Adam Bricker added seven and nine rebounds for West.

The Senators travel tonight to West Union and play Thursday night at home against Ironton St. Joe. In this next stretch of games, Bradford will be looking for more consistent shooting and also more game experience from underclassmen as most of the games after the new year will come against league foes.
