Presenters at the 2012 Celebration of Scholarship were invited to submit their papers or posters for a cash prize for the Dean’s Awards and nine awards were presented to students.

Nine $100 awards in the College of Arts and Sciences and in the College of Professional Studies were presented to students for outstanding research papers and/or projects.

Submissions were evaluated on the quality of the thesis statement or creative concept, how completely, coherently or imaginatively ideas were developed, how well ideas were supported with research, how well the paper was written (i.e., free of mechanical errors and written in an accessible and learned style) or how professionally the concept was executed.

Winners of the 2012 Dean’s Awards were Keri Boyce for “Girls and Their Horses”; Miranda Cremeens for “Parenting Styles in Relation to Aggression in Children”; Bethany Heidenreich for “In Oculo Transplantation: A Model for Studying Neurodegeneration”; Allison Hurley for “SMART Boards: Are they Really a SMART Investment for Classrooms?”; Emily Kowalski for “Memory vs. Distraction”; Leslie Mingee for “Advance Directives: Personal Perceptions and Preferences”; Bethany Sayre-Penix for “Traditional and Complementary Therapies in the Hospice Setting”; Shawn Tamba for “Effects of Non-Wrapping Polymer Treatment on Injection Molded Nylon-6/Carbon Nano Composites: Mechanical Properties”; and Abby Teske for “Shining Pieces: Improving Student Motivation for Individual Learning, Personal Success, and Societal Growth.”
