SSU Release

Shawnee State Athletics has announced that it is moving the Fall Bear Run to Wednesday, Sept. 19. The race will now start at 6 p.m. The Bear Run was originally scheduled for the Saturday of Alumni Weekend.

The 5K run has been moved from its original date out of respect for Courtney Clifford and her family. The Clifford family has planned a memorial walk in Courtney’s honor which is also scheduled for that Saturday at Portsmouth High School.

The Bear Run continues to grow and has attracted over 900 runners in each of the past two years, becoming one of the largest road races in Ohio. Registration will once again be free to all Shawnee State students, employees, faculty, staff and alumni. Students in grade school, junior high and high school may also register for free. For all others, registration will be $10 online.

Online registration will now close on Monday, Sept. 17 at noon. There will be an additional $5 charge to register on that Saturday. The only way to guarantee a Bear Run t-shirt in your size is to register in advance of the race.
