The Ernie and Lee Williams Junior Classic, a United State Tennis Association sanctioned tennis tournament, was held at the William Daehler Tennis Center at Shawnee State University last month.
The tournament host 51 players from throughout Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia. Players competed in 10 different age divisions.
In the boys 18 and under division, Zachary Koenig was the champions with Zachary Hatfield and Nick Johnson in second and third place, respectively.
In the girls 18 and under division, Sheridan McLean was the first place winner with Katie O’Neill placing second and Jamie Justice winning third place.
The boys 16 and under group went to Nicholas Koenig placing first with Jason Prince winning second place and Ryan Jones placing third.
The boys 14 and under category was won by Noah Schneider. Drew Jackson took second place and Nicholas Kessinger finished third.
The girls 14 and under group went to Cassie Alcala, Syndey Miller took second and Lea Wright took third place.
The boys 12 and under category was won by Joseph Herlihy, while second place went to Michael Herlihy and third went to Brandon Scarberry.
The girls 12 and under group went to Ella Hazelbaker, Kaitlyn Sommers took second place and Lea Wright took third.
The boys 10 and under winner was Michael Zayneh while Caden Wilcox took second place and Brock Kessinger won third.
The girls 10 and under champion was Maddie Gill and Clara Hazelbaker won second place.
The tournament is named in honor of Ernie and Lee Williams. The local couple has been active in the tennis community and employed by The Portsmouth Tennis Academy for many years.
