Royal Allard, 80
Royal W. Allard, age 80, resident of Powell, Ohio and former Shelby resident died Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, in Emeritus At Outlook Manor, Westerville, Ohio.
Born May 21, 1932, in Portsmouth, Ohio to L.Dow, MD. and Marjorie (Flehr) Allard, he had been a Shelby resident for many years before moving to Powell in 2010. He was a 1959 graduate of The Ohio State University where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. A veteran of the US Army, Army Ordnance Dept., he was stationed in Japan from 1953 to 1955.
Mr. Allard was employed as a technical writer, based in New York, N.Y., from 1959 to 1962 and did technical writing for various missile system controls. In 1980 he retired from the Shelby City Schools after teaching 18 years.
Mr. Allard was a life member of the National Rifle Association and the Ohio Gun Collectors Association. He enjoyed collecting antiques, attending auctions, woodworking, fishing and shooting.
Surviving are son, Mark (Darice) Allard of Powell, Ohio and daughter, Victoria (Shane) Kimmel of Marion, Ohio; four grandchildren, one sister, Clara (John) Eisel of Bloomfield, Mich., and three nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Allard of Mansfield, Ohio.
Family graveside services will be held Tuesday Sept. 25, 2012, in Greenlawn Cemetery, Portsmouth, Ohio with Reverend Tom Charles of Cornerstone Methodist Church officiating. Calling hours will not be observed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Royal’s memory to The Ohio State Rifle Team, c/o Ryan Tanoue, Head Coach, Rifle Team, 215 Saint John Arena, 410 Woody Hayes Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43210. Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby is assisting the family with arrangements.
