If you want to run a few miles and help some causes, Sean Shroll of the South Shore United Methodist Church, says you are invited to participate in the Quilt Festival 5K Race on Sept. 22.

“They will meet at the church which is 950 Main Street,” Shroll said. “It will be at 8 a.m., but they will need to contact us to get some registration information. The race itself is just something we do for the community along the lines of the Quilt Festival week. Whatever money might be raised will go into community benevolence things. For example, we are looking at building a satellite station for Helping Hands up in the South Shore area. That might be one avenue. There’s also a Meals on Wheels program, but it will all go out to ministry work in the community itself.”

Shroll said the committee operating the race hands out bags to all who register, and they invite anyone who wants to provide items for those bags to contact them.

“Community businesses that have been involved in the process, if they have some kind of small advertising for your company, that you want us to stick in those bags, we can arrange for that as well,” Shroll said.

Shroll said the race has been run three years in a row, and he said the church is looking for participants throughout the region on both sides of the river.

Shroll said anyone interested in more information about the race or to register should call the church at 606-932-3525.
