Tate Bailey struck out five, walked four and scattered four hits as he went the distance in Post 23’s 9-2 win over Lancaster Post 11 to start a doubleheader between the two teams at Beavers Field.

Bailey was given a 2-0 lead before he threw his first pitch of the afternoon. The lead grew to 3-0 in the fourth before the hosts pushed across their first run of the game.

Post 23 dealt the biggest blow in the next half inning with a four-run fifth inning. Tyler Sanford, Patrick Riehl, Alex Hartley and Sean Lawless each recorded two hits for the visitors in the first game.

Post 23 returns home today to play Waverly Post 142. The first contest is slated for 5 p.m. and it is unsure at this point whether or not a second game would take place because of the problems with the lights at Branch Rickey Park.

Friday’s game with Morehead (Ky.) Post 126 will be a single seven-inning game. The results of the second contest were not available at press time but can be accessed on the sports page at www.portsmouth-dailytimes.com.
