Our View: Still There After The Storm: The Red Cross Needs Us, Too

When financial times get bad, one of the unfortunate things that occurs is that giving sometimes goes on the back burner.

It has been a tough year for the River Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Then the storm struck on Saturday, devastating property and people’s lives. And despite the shortage of funds the Chapter was working with already, the Red Cross responded quickly to the tune of $5-$10,000, with more than 50 people requiring assistance.

With less money in all of our pockets already, it may seem like an imposition to ask for more. But it is time for all of us to dig down a little and make a contribution to keep the local chapter operational, especially when we never know when a disaster will occur.

The River Valley Chapter has no plans to back off on their services where they are needed. As Executive Director Mary Arnzen told us, “When people need our help we have to be there. And we’ll give people help. And we will find the money. That’s basically what we have to do. That’s what we’re here for.”

Contributions to the relief effort can be sent to Ohio River Valley Red Cross, 1801 Robinson Ave., Portsmouth, Ohio 45662, or online at www.ohiorivervalley.redcross.org.

We would urge everyone to give what they can to the agency that is there when they are needed most.

Mary Arnzen was right when she said it is just a matter of us helping each other.

“When you give money here it comes strictly to our people, and we’re just helping each other.”

The Red Cross needs our help now. Please consider giving generously.
