The Northwest Board of Education had a special meeting Friday morning to accept the resignation of district treasurer Karen Morrow.

The school board voted unanimously Nov. 10 to place Morrow on administrative leave, pending an investigation. The board would not comment on the reasons for their action. The next day, the school district filed a theft in office charge against Morrow at the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office. The details of the charges were not available because of the ongoing Sheriff’s investigation, Sheriff Capt. David Hall said.

Northwest Superintendent Todd Jenkins said Morrow’s attorney submitted the resignation Dec. 20 on her behalf to the prosecutor’s office representing the school board. The school board called a special meeting Friday morning to accept the resignation.

Jenkins said the investigation by the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office is ongoing.

According to her biography on the Northwest Schools website, Morrow began her career with the Scioto County Educational Service Center in 1994, then worked at Scioto County Joint Vocational School until 2000. She then was the Northwest assistant treasurer from 2000 to 2002, when she became district treasurer.

After placing Morrow on leave last month, the school board appointed the district’s assistant treasurer to “acting treasurer.” Jenkins said the assistant treasurer in September — before this action with Morrow — applied for a new position with Waverly schools and was hired last week, and will be leaving Northwest in January.

The school district will immediately begin searching for a new treasurer, Jenkins said.
