He was born in Lewis County, Ky., Sept. 23, 1930, a son of the late Joe Babe Bentley and Pearl Willis Bentley. He was a retired employee of Didder-Taylor Refractory of South Shore, Ky., was a member of the Firebrick Christian Baptist Church, attended the South Portsmouth Community Church in South Portsmouth, Ky., and was a Kentucky Colonel.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Bentley; and two sisters, Audrey Boggs and Ilene Conley.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Blankenbeckley Bentley, to whom he was married Dec. 29, 1951; two sons and wives, Rick and Kitty Bentley of Firebrick, Ky., and Chris and Tracy Bentley of South Shore, Ky.; two daughters and husbands, Robin and Dave Hutchison of Stout, Ohio, and Jennifer and Jim Scherer of Portsmouth, Ohio; one brother, Joe Bentley of South Shore, Ky.; three sisters, Hattie Holbrook of Germantown, Ohio, Violet Tinsley of South Portsmouth, Ky.; and Cleo Smith of Firebrick, Ky.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Firebrick Christian Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ray Russell and the Rev. Raymond Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Collier Memorial Gardens at South Portsmouth, Ky. Friends may call at the Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, Ky., from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
