Melvin H. Bernthold, 76, of Sciotoville, passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born June 8, 1935, in Lucasville, Ohio, a son of Mabel Morgan Bernthold and John Peter Bernthold. Melvin was a retired SOCF correction officer, and a 1953 Valley High School graduate.
In addition to his loving wife of 51 years, Judith Hamblin Bernthold, whom he married Sep. 17, 1960, he is also survived by two children: a daughter, Luanne (Jonathan) Bernthold Scott of Lucasville, and a son, Timothy Wayne (Pamela) Bernthold of Lancaster, Ohio; a twin sister, Marcella Crabtree of Lucasville; a sister, Lucy Hafer of Lucasville; a brother, Harold Bernthold of Sanger, California; loving grandkids, Evelyn Scott, Shea and Ryan Fyffe, Lauren Scott, Drew Bernthold, Riley Bernthold, Ian Scott; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be private with the Reverend Dan Widdig officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park.
Arrangements are under the direction of F.C. Daehler Mortuary Company in Portsmouth.
