A man was reportedly assaulted and stabbed in an attempted robbery Friday morning on Third Street in Portsmouth.

According to Interim Portsmouth Police Chief Robert Ware, Lindsey Hitchcock, age 32, was reportedly assaulted by two men in the alley of the 500 block of Third Street, at 2:32 a.m. Friday. Ware said one suspect punched Hitchcock in the face and the other suspect stabbed Hitchcock in the hand and both suspects searched his pockets while he was on the ground. When they did not find anything to take, they left empty handed.

The only vague description of the suspects is that they were two white men — one with a mustache and the other with a beard and mustache. There was no description of their height, weight, age, or hair color.

Hitchcock was taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center, in Portsmouth, and was treated and released. The severity of his injuries were not known.
