A Portsmouth man has been arrested, and a baby has been taken to a Columbus hospital.
Anthony W. Euton, 27, of 643 Apt. I, Eighth St., Portsmouth is facing a charge of endangering children, after a witness told Portsmouth Police that on two separate occasions Sunday, Euton picked up a baby out of a crib by its arm, and that they heard the arm pop. The witness also advised authorities that Euton grabbed the baby by the shoulders and threw him.
The witness advised that the baby’s head missed hitting the crib by about three inches, and that he managed to catch the baby just before he hit the ground.
Another witness advised officers that he saw Euton pick up the child by the arm, and he heard the arm pop. That witness also told police Euton was angry and threw the child into the air, catching him just before he hit the ground.
The official Portsmouth Police report said Portsmouth Police Officers called an ambulance to check the child and they said that the child “had no obvious deformities. However, it was not waking up even when they picked it up to check it. They also noted that the child’s eyes were rolling back into his head, and he (the baby) needed to be transported to the hospital.”
Once at the police station, officers said Euton denied throwing the baby, even though officers said he told them he did drop the baby twice.
Upon follow-up at Southern Ohio Medical Center, the report said it was determined the baby was being transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.
