Kids’ Summer Reading Events

The annual Summer Reading Program is by far our favorite library endeavor. We offer programs and projects for all age groups. For a complete schedule visit our website, www.yourppl.org or stop by your local branch. This week:

Illustration for Kids

The New Boston Branch will be hosting an exciting class series for kids ages 6-14. There will be three classes in the series. The first is titled ‘Illustration for Kids,’ and will contain three separate classes. During the first class kids will bring an object they would like to write a story about and begin their story. The second class they will begin to illustrate their story using the object they bring as a guide for their drawing. The final class will let them color and shade their artwork. Library staff will be available to assist and teach them as the kids’ projects progress. Class one will take place June 8 at 4pm. Please call 456-4412 for more information.

Story times for children ages 3 months- 6 years at various Portsmouth Public Library locations will be held this week. The schedule is as follows:

Family Story time-Appropriate for children of all ages

New Boston- Monday, at 11

Wheelersburg-Tuesday at 11am

Northwest- Wednesdays, at 11am

Lucasville- Wednesday, at 11am.

South Webster-Thursday at 11:30am

Pre-School Story time-Appropriate for children ages 4-6 years

Portsmouth- Tuesday at 11:30am

Toddler Time-Appropriate for children ages 2-3 years

Lucasville- Monday at 11am.

Portsmouth- Wednesday at 11:30am

Book Babies-Appropriate for children ages 3-24 months

Portsmouth- Thursday, at 11am.

Tail Waggin’ Tutors

Dogs in the library? You bet.

Certified Therapy Dogs (and their owners) will be at various library locations. The dogs will be available to listen to any young reader wishing to practice their skills.

At New Boston-Mondays 3-5pm

At Wheelersburg-Thursdays 4-5:30pm

At Lucasville-Fridays from 3-5pm

At Portsmouth- Saturdays from 2-4pm

Adult/Teen Summer Reading Activities

Howl at the Moon Photo Contest

PPL is asking for the best night time photo. Some ideas for photographs could be a peaceful sunset, a spooky full moon, or a picture of city lights at night. Submissions will be on display at all locations for the entire month of June. A winner will be chosen from each location and posted to our website

Blanket Drive

We are asking all patrons to donate NEW bedding items for the Salvation Army. All donated items can be taken to any location for the entire month of June.

Yoga

The Portsmouth Public Library will be hosting its Yoga group at 10am in the Copley Meeting Room on Tuesday, June 5.

Zombie Prom

Teens age 12-18 will be able to dance the night away dressed as their favorite brain-eatting creature. There will be games, prizes and lots of fun. Join us:

Twilight Movie/Trivia Night

Technology Classes Offered

The Information Technology Department of the Portsmouth Public Library will be offering a variety of computer classes this week. The schedule is as follows.
