SOC II champion Valley had eight players named to the 2012 Associated Press All-Southeast District team released Tuesday night, tied with Oak Hill for the most among all area schools. Valley coach Darren Crabtree also earned honors as a Coach of the Year.
Headlining the 12-0 Indians on the list is senior defensive lineman J.J. Hettinger, who was named Division V Southeast District Defensive Player of the Year as he finished with 84 tackles (eight for loss), six sacks and a pair of forced fumbles. Quarterback Will Howard, offensive lineman Brandon Zimmer, running back Nate Arnett, defensive lineman Hayden Dunn, linebacker Brandon Jordan and defensive back Zach Shope were also named First Team.
For the second time in as many seasons, Crabtree was named Coach of the Year. This year, he shared the honor with Oak Hill’s Nathan Dugan and Chillicothe Huntington’s Wade Bartholomew.
Also in Division V, Wheelersburg’s Eddie Miller was named the Offensive Player of the Year. The junior quarterback set school records in passing yardage (1,986) and passing touchdowns (23).
Fellow Pirates who joined Miller on the First Team were receivers Tyler Claxon and Dylan Miller, offensive lineman James Hugel and defensive lineman Camron Parsley.
Locally, the First Team for Division V was represented with West running back Alec Meeker and defensive back Zach Frye as well as Oaks receiver Luke Hammond, offensive lineman Tyler Roach, running back Devon Davis, defensive lineman Justin Dickens and linebackers Wes Harden and Mason Waugh.
In Division IV, offensive lineman Jared McCray was one of five Minford players tabbed to the First Team. Fellow Falcons include receiver Zach Farrar, running back Austin Carter and defensive back Austin Thompson.
Ironton running back Patrick Lewis captured Co-Offensive Player of the Year honors with Westfall quarterback Trent Williamson while Lewis’ teammate Aaron Stephens was named the top defensive player. Also joining Lewis and Stephens from the Fighting Tigers squad were offensive lineman Adam Webb, defensive lineman Trevor White and linebacker Maurice Phillips. First year Ironton coach Mark Vass was named Co-Coach of the Year with Piketon’s Tyler Gullion.
On the subject of the Redstreaks, they had six players named First Team. They were quarterback Isaac Brabson, receiver Evan Ferguson, offensive lineman Aaron Ward, defensive lineman Colten Williams, linebacker Jeremy Farmer and punter Chaz Bowman.
Portsmouth’s lone representative on First Team was running back Johnie Charles. Waverly kicker Willie Bevens was also his school’s only First Team member.
Both Notre Dame and Symmes Valley were recognized with five selections each to the First Team list. The Titans placed running back Dakota Smith, receiever Kevin Lewis, defensive lineman Daniel Ogg, linebacker Jack Kayser and defensive back Will Haney while the Vikings were represented by receiver Austin Baldwin, running back Alec Herrell, defensive lineman Jacob Easthorn, linebacker Tyler Rowe and defensive back D.J. Miller.
Lastly, East and Green each had one member on the First Team list. The Tartans’ lone pick was quarterback Justin Crager and the Bobcats were represented by defensive lineman Kaden Sampson.
Editor’s note: Divisions II and III were omitted for relevancy and space restrictions.
