On May 18, 2012, Hattie B. (Martin, Leslie) Payton, was escorted by angels into the presence of God while surrounded by her family at SOMC Hospice.

Born July 30, 1926, she was a daughter of the late John and Ethel (Stone) Martin. Preceding her in death are also her beloved husband of 5o years, Raymond F. Leslie; sons, Raymond D. Leslie, Rev. James E. Leslie, and Paul G. Leslie Sr.; grandchildren, Tiffany Leslie and Anthony Leslie; siblings, Charlene Little and Lee Martin; son and daughter-in-law, David K. Evans and Betty J. Leslie.

Surviving is her loving and devoted husband of 15 years, Fred Payton; seven children, Nellie Ethel (Jerry) Yarnell, Barbara A. (Bill) Payne, Linda B. Evans, Deloris J. Blair, John G. Leslie, Brenda K. (Jim) Dalton, and Kevin (Merrill) Leslie; daughters-in-law, Anita (Leslie) Mills and Clara Leslie; 30 grandchildren; sisters, Deloris Wolf, Betty Martin; and brother Russell Martin, all of whom she loved and cherished as gifts from God.

One of Hattie’s greatest joys in life was being a mother. She lovingly cared for 10 children of her own, and was the first to open her door and arms to other children in need of a home and care. The sweetest of music was the sound of her prayers for her children.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. on May 23, 2012, at HARRISON PYLES FUNERAL HOME IN WHEELERSBURG with Rev. Jeff Leslie officiating. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Harrison Pyles Funeral Home Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
