George Franklin Wittenmyer, 87, of South Portsmouth formerly of West Portsmouth, died Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. He was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Adams County to the late George and Etna Williams Wittenmyer. He was retired car salesman for Cole Lincoln Mercury, a Navy WWII Veteran, a member of Wheelersburg Church of Christ and an avid golfer. Along with his parents George was preceded in death by a daughter Linda Gail Thompson.

George is survived by his wife Lucille Whitman Wittenmyer who he married on April 12, 1948, three sons; Dr. George Franklin (Linda Sue) Wittenmyer of Homestead Fla., Richard (Kimberly) Wittenmyer and Charles (Connie) Wittenmyer both of West Portsmouth, two daughters Joyce Purdy of West Portsmouth and Lisa (Nicholas) Brown of Troy, Ohio, a sister Mary Grahm of Manchester, 10 grandchildren; Alisha, Derek, Tiffany, Wesley, Christopher, Josh, Brandi, Joe, Andrew and Zachary, and 16 Great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday May 8, 2012, at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Lynn Wessell officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park with military rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Condolences may be sent to www.rogerwdavisfuneralhome.com
