A man being sought by U.S. Marshals and Ohio authorities has been arrested by deputies from the Lewis County, Ky., Sheriff Department.

Michael Welch, 29, was on the Marion County, Ohio, Sheriff’s “most wanted” list, sought on charges that he failed to register as a sex offender. He had also recently been featured on Columbus Crime Stoppers.

Lewis County Sheriff Johnny Bivens said Marion County officials forwarded information about Welch, including his picture, to the Lewis County Sheriff Department, because he was possibly staying somewhere in the Garrison area.

Bivens said deputies spoke with individuals there and shared Welch’s picture with members of the community.

According to authorities, someone recognized Welch from the photo on Wednesday, followed the suspect to his residence and contacted the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputy Dwayne Stone arrived at the residence on Bird Dog Drive, and found Welch inside, but Welch managed to escape through the rear door of the residence, the deputy reported.

Bivens said Stone caught up with Welch along the railroad tracks and ordered the suspected fugitive to the ground. When he reportedly refused to comply, Stone shot him with a Taser and took him into custody.

Welch was charged with being a fugitive from justice, escape, fleeing or evading police and resisting arrest. He was incarcerated in the Lewis County Detention Center with no assigned bond.
