FRANKLIN FURNACE — The locomotive known as the Eastern Eagle volleyball team came through Green High School Thursday and swept the host Bobcats in three games.

But the Eagles, who improved to 10-1 overall and 6-0 in SOC I action, did not go through the match smoothly according to coach Janet Day.

"At first I thought we struggled a little bit with just being ready because some times, not everybody tends to get the ball back when you think it's going to come," Day said. "It'll come a little sooner and a couple of times we got caught not ready."

In the first game, Green trailed 10-9 before Eastern finished the frame with 15 of the last 19 points for the victory.

"We take it as a positive because to hang with Eastern is just phenomenal," Bobcats coach Angela Cline said. "Eastern's such a phenomenal team and when you can hang with them for a while, you're doing something right."

Green did have early 1-0 leads in the final two games but the Eagles were able to corral the Bobcats to under 10 points in each game.

"We know we need to work the floor more and spread our lines out," Cline said. "But I'm tickled with our girls tonight."

During the third game, Eastern's Miranda Clark was on serve for 20-straight points before her 21st, with a 24-3 lead, hit the net.

The Eagles were able to close out the match on the next point. Clark finished with 18 aces in the contest.

It's not the first time Clark has been on point for an extended period of time. Earlier in the year, she was on serve for 23-straight points as Eastern closed out Symmes Valley in the third game 25-1.

"She's a good server and it was shown again tonight against this team," Day said.

Both teams are off the rest of the weekend. The Eagles return to action Monday with a home match with Chillicothe Southeastern while Green travels Tuesday to East.

Scoring for Eastern included Chandler Brown with four aces and 10-of-12 on serve returns, Rhyanna Day with 12 kills and four digs, Casey Howard with four kills, Madison Knipp with three kills, Jenny Keppler was 8-of-9 on serve returns, Cassidy Rowe had three digs and Brittany Mounts had 24 assists. Statistics for the Bobcats were not available at press time.
