Division III track and field tourney wraps up

The Division III Southeast District track and field tournament wrapped up its final events Saturday morning and afternoon.

The tournament saw many local athletes post high finishes and with all of the 17 total events in the books, the Wheelersburg girls team was the top finisher with 115.33 points in the South division.

On the boys side, Valley finished second overall with 61 total points.

Among the best performances by local student-athletes Saturday was Wheelersburg’s Sadie Ruby. Ruby had a hand in four first-place finishes in either individual or relay performances.

The first of the top-finishes for Ruby was in the girls 100-meter hurdles in the South division with a time of 16.62.

In the boys 110-meter hurdles, East’s Alston Ellrod finished fourth with a time of 16.01.

Minford’s Courtney Sexton finished in the top spot of the South division’s girls 100-meter dash with a time of 13.10, while Eric Schmidt of Wheelersburg finished second with a time of 13.56. Valley’s McKenzie Coriell finished fourth with a time of 13.66 in the same event.

East’s Cody Belveal came in second in the boys 100-meter dash with a time of 11.40, while Valley’s Joseph Winters finished fourth with a time of 11.86.

The Wheelersburg combination of Paige White, Ruby, Cassidy Rase and Schmidt tallied a top finish in the girls 4x200-meter relay in the South with a time of 1:48.69.

Sarah Willis of Wheelersburg placed fourth in the girls 1600-meter run against the South’s competition with a time of 5:57.64.

Minford’s team of Salina Potter, Brandi Williams, Lauren Wright and Courtney Sexton combined to give the Falcons a second place finish in the girls 4x100-meter relay South with a time of 53.64.

Valley’s team of Matt Hodge, Cody Spradlin, Zach Shope and Joseph Winters finished first in the boys 4x100-meter relay with a time of 44.87.

Portsmouth’s Shae Cartee finished second in the girls 400-meter dash in the South division with a time of 1:03.62.

Valley’s Shope had another high finish when he placed second in the boys 400-meter dash with a time of 53.20.

Ruby had another first-place finish for Wheelersburg when she finished with a time of 47.26 in the girls 300-meter hurdles.

Hodge checked in at first for Valley in the boys 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40.62.

Wheelersburg’s Alyssa Conn had a fifth-place finish in the girls 800-meter run in the South Division with a time of 2:44.33 while Portsmouth’s Julia Sturgill had a sixth-place finish with a time of 2:44.94

Brian Stiers of Wheelersburg came in fourth in the boys 800-meter run with a time of 2:04.63.

Another first-place finish went to the Wheelersburg girls when Schmidt finished with a time of 27.79 in the girls 200-meter dash in the South. Teammate Paige White finished fourth with a time of 28.99.

Ruby put another first-place notch on her belt in the girls 3200-meter run against the South’s competition with a finish time of 12:48.42. Teammate Sarah Willis finished fourth with a time of 13.24.52.

Clay’s Chase Hiles registered a fifth-place finish in the boys 3200-meter run with a time of 10:56.94, while Wheelersburg’s Max Conley finished eighth with a time of 11:23.93. Ian Snyder of South Webster finished ninth with a time of 11:35.69.

Minford’s team of Wright, Tylin Bender, Gabby Grose and Kylie Berry combined for a fourth-place finish in the girls 4x400-meter relay-South with a time of 4:40.29.

Stiers, Tyler Claxon, Zach Jenkins and Keith Thurmer finished second in the boys 4x400-meter relay for Wheelersburg with a time of 3:36.97.

Carrie Coriell earned Valley a first-place finish in the South’s girls discus throw, while Shanice Rollins of Portsmouth finished second and Jordan Dever of Minford finished fourth.

Ryan Roe of West came in second in the boys high jump, while Valley’s Hodge came in eighth.

McKenzie Coriell of Valley placed second in the South’s girls long jump and Notre Dame’s Andrew Marchyn finished sixth in the same event.

Curt Crabtree of Valley finished fifth in the boys shot put, while teammate Steve Kearney finished seventh. Wheelersburg’s James Hudgel finished ninth.

Portsmouth’s Sturgill finished second in the girls pole vault-South.
